Kids’ Learning Camps in Ontario

Learning Camps for kids are often held during school breaks such as March break, PD days, and summer. They sometimes involve actual camping and sometimes are just held in a building in the city. (For information on camping, see our page on Homeschooler Campouts).  The camps listed here are not specifically for homeschoolers unless otherwise indicated, but provide learning opportunities for all kids and might be of interest to home-based learners.

Bright Math Camp

"Currently held at Carleton University, this is a not-for-profit camp operated by Bright Math Camp Inc. for the promotion of mathematics. The Bright Math Camp represents a unique out-of-school learning opportunity for children with a drive to explore, to question, to reason, and to discuss a range of sound mathematical topics. These topics, demonstrably well suited to children's level and interests, derive from areas apart from the mainstream of school mathematics, and are introduced and developed from first principles. Our most successful topics have related numbers and numeration, arithmetic operations, number theory, combinatorics, informal geometry, probability and statistics, non-routine problem solving, and recreational cryptography."

For more details, see the Bright Math Camp website.

Canadian Ecology Centre

The Canadian Ecology Centre's School of Experiential Education has been offering experiential summer credits to students in grades 9 through 12 for over 15 years. Our credits are delivered in a safe, positive and hands-on approach, adapting and accepting of your child's learning style. Students live on site in beautiful modern cabins, while enjoying the natural environment that surrounds them.

Earn a full high school credit during the school year through blended learning delivery, including on-line and face-to-face (on-site) learning. Courses start with a weekend experiential session that sets up the on-line learning component, with a culminating returning weekend for project presentations, evaluation and debriefing.

All of our credits are Ministry of Education approved and granted by the Near North District School Board. Credits are available in Science, Geography, Guidance and Physical Education.

Centauri Summer Arts Camp

An overnight specialty camp located in the Niagara Region, Centauri provides a unique focus on the arts. Young people aged 8-18 choose from dozens of specialty arts programs taught by professionals, including theatre, film, dance, stage combat, improvisation, creative writing, art, design, photography and musical theatre. Campers live together in dorms, closely supervised by highly trained and caring camp counsellors, all of whom are over the age of 18. Centauri is a family run camp which aims to provide creative and academic learning opportunities within a supportive, caring and non-competitive environment. The camp welcomes young people from across North America and all over the world. Leadership programs are offered for older campers, and each August, as an additional learning opportunity, the camp runs an international tour to a writing retreat in England or Scotland for ages 13-18. The directors are happy to offer family visits to give prospective parents and campers the opportunity to meet them and discuss the camp's programs face to face.
