Conseil scolaire Viamonde

116 Cornelius Pkwy
North York ON M6L 2K5

Board Type: Pub Dist Sch Brd (E/F)
Board Language: French
Region: Toronto and Area Regional Office
Phone Number: (416) 614-0844
Toll-free: 1-888-583-5383
Fax Number: 416-397-2072

Send your letter of intent to the Surintendant de l’éducation responsible for your school. Their Contact page includes superintendents' name, phone, email (no schools, no responsibilities), under "secteur de l’éducation."

CS Viamonde letter of intent

CAUTION: overreaching by including extra statements to sign in the letter of intent

Their letter of intent form (Annexe A in their file of appendices) goes beyond the standard letter of intent, by adding two sentences to which you may not wish to put your signature: declaring your instruction will be in French, and committing to notifying CS Viamonde of any future changes of address. These are not legal requirements. Since a letter of intent is supposed to be your notification to them, rather than their imposed conditions on you, you should feel free to cross off any statement to which you do not wish to sign a commitment. Or simply use the Ministry's standard template for the parental notification (also available in French).

CS Viamonde letter of reply

CAUTION: misleading wording (bordering on misinformation)

Their letter of reply (Annexe B in their file of appendices) mostly resembles PPM131's appendix C sample school board reply, except that, instead of enclosing a copy of PPM131, they enclose a copy of their own procedures document, stating that it is aligned with PPM131 (which it is not, since it replaces the Ministry's policy wording "devrait," i.e. "should," with "doit," i.e. "must," making some things appear to be legally required when they are not).

CS Viamonde policy/procedure

Their Policy & Procedures page (Gouvernance > Politiques et directives administratives) lists Home Schooling under Éducation et écoles, as Directive administrative no3,03 ENSEIGNEMENT À DOMICILE PAR LES PARENTS, TUTEURS OU TUTRICES. Their separate file of appendices includes a letter of intent form (Annexe A), a sample school board letter of reply (Annexe B), a sample investigation questionnaire (Annexe C — you are not being asked to fill it out unless they're telling you explicitly that you're under investigation, in which case you're still not legally required to), a sample letter of warning (Annexe D) to send to parents who refuse to supply requested information such as an educational plan and details of French resources used (this implies an attempted investigation), a sample letter (Annexe E) to the Provincial School Attendance Counsellor (conseiller provincial en assiduité) asking for a provincial inquiry when a parent is still refusing to cooperate after a warning letter, and Annexe F is a collection of excerpts from the sections of the Education Act that they claim are relevant (many of which are only applicable to children who are truant, i.e. have no 21(2) excuses for their non-attendance).

CAUTION:
- outdated references
- misinformation or misleading wording ("doit" instead of "devrait"
- omissions
- the same cautions as for PPM131 itself

Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir

Toronto ON M2M 1C8

Board Language: French
Region: Toronto and Area Regional Office

This board's directive document tells parents to send the letter of intent to the principal of the last-attended school ("la direction de la dernière école fréquentée"), who will then forward it to the superintendent of education responsible for that school. If you also wish to send it directly to the school board, as directed by PPM131, address it to the Surintendant de l’éducation. To find out which superintendent is responsible for your school, go to the list of schools (Élémentaire > Nos écoles > tab for Élémentaires, Secondaires, or Virtuel) and click on your school to be taken to a page of contact information, including the name and email address of the superintendent. [The Administration page (MonAvenir > Administration) includes the superintendents' name, phone, email, and responsibilities, but not the assigned schools.]

CSC MonAvenir letter of intent

Their letter of intent form is acceptable to use, being almost identical to PPM131 appendix B.

CSC MonAvenir letter of reply

Their school board letter in response to a letter of intent is similar to PPM131's sample letter of reply, except that it omits enclosing or even mentioning PPM131.

CSC MonAvenir policy/procedure

Their Policy & Procedures page (MonAvenir > Politiques et directives administratives > Programmes et services à l’élève) lists Home Schooling as DIRECTIVE ADMINISTRATIVE PSE.9.2 ENSEIGNEMENT À DOMICILE PAR LES PARENTS. It starts with a statement to the effect that MonAvenir respects the parental decision to homeschool, followed by a quick, paraphrased, and partially misleading overview of most of PPM131.

CAUTION:
- omissions
- misinformation or misleading wording ("doit" instead of "devrait")
- the same cautions as for PPM131 itself

Their page on the Équipe administrative includes superintendents' name and assigned grades.

CSC Providence letter of intent

No school board form found on their website. You can use the standard letter of intent (French version here).

CSC Providence policy/procedure

Their Policy & Procedures page (Conseil submenu) doesn’t list anything for Home Schooling. We hope this means they follow PPM131 directly. The only cautions are therefore the cautions that apply to PPM131. However, if you receive a policy document from them, please share it with us so we can let other parents know what to expect.

This board's policy directs parents to send the notification to the principal, but you might also want to send it to the school board, since that's what the Ministry's policy (PPM131) directs you to do. Address it to the Superintendent of Education responsible for your school. The board's webpage Équipe administrative (CECCE > Administration) lists each superintendent's name, email, schools (no phone, no responsibilities).

CECCE letter of intent

The CECCE letter of intent form (Annexe 1 of their procedures document - Avis de scolarisation à domicile) is acceptable to use, being almost identical to PPM131 appendix B.

CECCE letter of reply

The CECCE letter in response to a parent's notification (Annexe 2 of their procedures document) includes all the same messages as PPM131's appendix C.

CECCE policy/procedure

The Administrative Directives section of their Administration page (CECCE > Administration > scroll past the list of administrators) lists Home Schooling as PED-03 - Scolarisation à domicile par les parents, tutrices ou tuteurs. The document includes appendices of the templates used for the letter of intent form (Annexe 1), letter of response from the school board (Annexe 2), investigation questionnaire (Annexe 3), letter to parents telling them to send their child to school after failed attempt to conduct a school board investigation (Annexe 4), and letter to the Provincial School Attendance Counsellor requesting a provincial inquiry due to the inability to determine satisfactory instruction when a parent has not cooperated with a school board investigation (Annexe 5).

CSDCNO letter of intent

Send the letter of intent to the Superintendent of Education, only one of which is listed on their Administration page (Conseil > À propos de nous > Administration). Click on that person’s name to see their phone number and email address. Currently (Oct. 2020) Irène Charette, Surintendante de l'éducation, irene.charette@cspne.ca

CSPNE letter of intent

CSPNE refers parents to PPM131 to use the standard letter of intent form (also available in French).

CSPNE letter of reply

CSPNE refers school board officials to PPM131 to use the standard letter of reply.

CSPNE policy/procedure

Their Policies page (Conseil > Politiques) lists Home Schooling as ELE-SAE-059P – Enseignement à domicile (brief policy statement) and ELE-SAE-059DA – Enseignement à domicile (brief administrative procedure) under Élèves - services à l'élève. The Procedures document summarizes the basic procedure of PPM131 and refers parents and the school board to PPM131 itself for more details. This is a good thing, as PPM131 was intended to replace the multiple school board policies with a single policy to be followed consistently by all school boards. The only cautions are therefore the cautions that apply to PPM131.

Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l'Ontario – CSPGNO

296 Van Horne rue
Sudbury ON P3B 1H9

Board Type: Pub Dist Sch Brd (E/F)
Board Language: French
Region: Sudbury-North Bay Regional Office
Phone Number: (705) 671-1533

Send the letter of intent to the Superintendent of Education responsible for your school (if you know which one that is) or (if you don't) you could send it to the Director of Education or their assistant or the secretary for Direction générale. Their Contact page (Nous joindre, link at the top of the page) lists all of the above, including two Superintendents of Education, with their name, phone, and email address, but doesn't indicate portfolio responsibilities or assigned schools.

CSPGNO letter of intent

CAUTION: overreaching by including extra statements to sign in the letter of intent

Their letter of intent form (Annexe A) goes beyond the standard letter of intent, by adding two sentences to which you may not wish to put your signature: declaring your instruction will be in French, and committing to notifying the board of any future changes of address. These are not legal requirements. Since a letter of intent is supposed to be your notification to them, rather than their imposed conditions on you, you should feel free to cross out any statement to which you do not wish to sign a commitment. Or simply use the Ministry's standard template for the parental notification (also available in French).

CSPGNO letter of reply

CAUTION: misleading (bordering on misinformation)

Their letter of reply mostly resembles PPM131's appendix C sample school board reply, except that, instead of enclosing a copy of PPM131, they enclose a copy of their own procedures document, stating that it is aligned with PPM131 (which it is not, since the procedures document replaces the Ministry's policy wording "devrait," i.e. "should," with "doit," i.e. "must," making some things appear to be legally required when they are not).

CSPGNO policy/procedure

Their Policies & Procedures page (Menu > Gouvernance > Lignes de conduite) lists Home Schooling as B-020 Enseignement à domicile, comprising a brief policy statement, an Administrative Procedures document, a board-specific letter of intent form, and a link that looks like it's intended to go to the rest of the appendices (forms and letters referenced in the procedures document) but merely refreshes the page you're on. Based on the titles of the missing appendices, it's likely they're the same as those used by CS Viamonde.

CAUTION:
- outdated references
- misinformation or misleading wording ("doit" instead of "devrait")
- omissions
- the same cautions as for PPM131 itself
